Creating history within the construction industry
for more than 45 years

For more than 45 years our company has consistently maintained an excellent reputation for reliability, efficiency, high quality and enviable customer relations. From the humble beginnings of its small Peterborough office back in 1971, Princebuild Ltd has extended its operations so that today it delivers a national, multi-disciplined service.

Take a look at our history timeline:

  • 1971

    Founded in October 1971

Our company, then known as Eccleshare Construction Ltd, a subsidiary of the Eccleshare Group of Companies based in Lincoln, began trading in the city of Peterborough. Premises were acquired in the city’s Princes Street, from where we took our inspiration for the subsequent renaming of the company. Through the remainder of the seventies and the early eighties, the company gained major contracts for housing, community and industrial projects, including the redevelopment of the city centre’s Boongate area and much of the new Westwood Industrial Estate.
  • 1974
Management buyout from parent group and Small Works Division created
Year-on-year growth culminated with the company being able to separate itself from the parent group through a management buyout by our founding directors, Derek Asplin and Stuart Pudney. In addition, a Small Works Division was created to concentrate on refurbishment, improvement, alteration, response and reactive maintenance, primarily for local authorities and housing associations.
  • 1985
Company name changed to Princebuild Ltd
Keen to show that Peterborough had a successful, dynamic construction and building maintenance service which could compete with the already established local firms and the more well-known national enterprises the company was renamed Princebuild Ltd, and the now familiar green and yellow livery was introduced. Turnover at this point in the company’s history was £1.5 million.
  • 1988
Head offices constructed in Fengate area of Peterborough
Land acquired in the Fengate area of Peterborough was utilised to build new offices, a joinery shop, stores and garage facilities to form our new head office. This is still our head office and registered address today.
  • 1991
    Laurence Mould appointed Associate Director
After providing more than 20 years’ service to the company in a senior management role, Laurence Mould was appointed an associate director of the company and assigned to assist in the controlled expansion of the business.
  • 1996
    Office opened in Holbeach, Spalding
With plans in place for expanding the company, a new office was opened in Holbeach, Spalding with the primary purpose of facilitating a large term maintenance and gas servicing contract. This move into the south of Lincolnshire also enabled the company to extend its area of normal daily operations into Boston, Sleaford, Kings Lynn and beyond.

With growing demand for our services and requests from a number of our larger clients to extend our operational area towards the Midlands, we opened a new office in Northampton.

In the same year succession plans for the business facilitated a management buyout in which associate directors Dale Asplin, Jonathan Pudney, Mark Asplin and Matthew Pudney became shareholders and directors of the company.
