Whilst most of the work was completed with the ward open, a one week closure was required three weeks into the project to allow the drainage for the new wet rooms to be connected. Complications with what was already a tight schedule hindered the project due to the breakout of a sickness bug at the hospital, meaning we were unable to complete the drainage until the sixth week of the project. This caused significant problems for the rest of the scheduled works, however by re-working the programme and introducing additional hours the delivery of the project was only affected by two days.
The refurbished ward is now a light, airy and welcoming space for patients and the hospital is able to treat more patients, reducing waiting times for appointments.
