Overview
Princebuild successfully delivered a comprehensive store refresh and refrigeration upgrade for Waitrose Coulsdon. The £1.7 million project was part of JLP’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and enhancing customer experience across their estate.
The works required detailed coordination to ensure the store remained operational throughout, with minimal disruption to customers and staff.
Scope of Work
The project included a full replacement of the store’s refrigeration system, and a wide range of internal and external improvement works:
- Installation of a new Gen3 Refrigeration System, offering better efficiency, enhanced performance across a wider temperature range, and the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants.
- Installation of new refrigeration cases throughout the store.
- Full redecoration and refresh of both retail and back-of-house areas.
- Removal of internal bulkhead and Welcome Desk to improve space and visibility.
- Increase of car park capacity by five spaces, including car park repairs and new white lining.
- Construction of new cold rooms and a freezer in the back-of-house area.
- Improved roof access through installation of new stairs and general roof repairs.
- Installation of new signage throughout the store.
- Addition of a new coffee machine in-store.
- Diamond polishing of the retail floor area.
- Lighting upgrades throughout the store, including conversion of remaining fluorescent back-of-house lighting to LED.
- Decommissioning and removal of redundant boilers and generator.
Summary
The completed project delivered a fully refreshed Waitrose store featuring a state-of-the-art refrigeration system, upgraded LED lighting, and improved customer facilities.
The works have enhanced the operational efficiency and environmental performance of the store while providing a brighter, more modern shopping environment. The additional parking spaces and improved internal layout further contribute to an improved customer experience and store functionality.
