Project overview
Princebuild were appointed to transform an unused function suite at Weston Favell Academy School into a new, dedicated sixth form area. The space had not been used for several years, and the school wanted to create a modern, functional environment that would support both students and staff. The project focused on providing high-quality teaching spaces while working safely within a live school environment.
Scope of work
The works included the full refurbishment and reconfiguration of the existing area to create:
- 2 new classrooms
- 2 new offices for teachers
- A kitchen area for staff use
The project involved demolition of the existing layout, installation of new partitions, finishes and services, and the upgrade of lighting throughout the space, including the installation of new LED lighting, new smart lighting controls were installed to improve energy efficiency and lighting quality.
Careful planning was required during the first two weeks of the project, as the school was still in operation. Demolition works were programmed around lesson times to ensure minimal disruption to students and staff, maintaining a safe and controlled working environment at all times.
There were no major issues encountered during the project, and works were delivered smoothly through strong communication and collaboration with the school and Amey.
Summary
The completed Falcon Suite now provides a modern and welcoming sixth form area, offering two new classrooms for teaching, dedicated office space for teachers, and a small kitchen facility for staff use.
The project has given the school a practical and well designed space that supports learning and day to day operations, while also improving the overall use of a previously redundant area. The successful delivery reflects Princebuild’s ability to work within live education environments and deliver high quality refurbishment projects on time and within budget.
