Other store features have been designed to meet the needs of busy local families, including a large Nutmeg clothing range, wider aisles, extra-large baby changing areas, a child friendly area in the Café and ‘mini stores’ in the Market Street area. The fridges and freezers all have doors, unlike the normal open cabinets, making them more energy efficient and helping to maintain a more consistent temperature for shoppers.
To reflect the diversity within the local community the new Colindale store has a large World Foods section, featuring a multi-national Deli and Halal meat counter. The chains largest ‘Free From’ area also caters for those with food allergies.
One very prominent trial feature is the new Morrisons logo which is currently being tested in a select amount of stores, the new logo is designed to reflect the heritage credentials of the brand and incorporates a friendly lower case font. This was a late change and required careful redesign work to allow it to be installed.
In addition to the customer facing facilities, the back of house areas have also been designed with comfort in mind. The staff canteen has had a new design applied, incorporating a soft seating area and a light, bright modern design to enhance the break times for staff.
The Morrisons team were delighted with the completed work and the store opened to queues of customers, making for a very successful opening, the first one for the new CEO.
