Princebuild is proud to be working in partnership with Community Wood Recycling, helping to reduce waste, protect the environment and support people back into work through a truly circular approach to construction waste.

Between January and December 2025, our partnership helped divert 14.1 tonnes of waste wood away from landfill. Instead of being sent to skip, this wood was reused, recycled or repurposed in ways that delivered real social and environmental value.

Of the material collected, 16% was reused within the community for DIY and building projects or transformed into products such as bird boxes and furniture. A further 22% was processed into firewood and kindling for local homes and businesses, helping to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions. The remaining 62% was recycled into woodchip for use in particleboard manufacturing, animal bedding or as carbon-neutral fuel.

Beyond the environmental benefits, the partnership also supports paid work and training opportunities for people facing barriers to employment, including those recovering from substance misuse, mental health challenges or previous involvement with the justice system. This labour-intensive, reuse-first model helps individuals build skills, confidence and long-term employability.

Community Wood Recycling uses less fuel than traditional skip collections, never landfills any of the wood it collects and helps displace virgin timber from logging. For Princebuild, it is a practical, measurable way to reduce waste while making a positive social impact.

We’re now encouraging more of our teams to get involved and consider Community Wood Recycling as an alternative to skips on suitable projects. Small changes on site can make a meaningful difference, saving resources, reducing carbon and changing lives for the better.
