The annual World Frog Racing Championship, which took place at the Peterborough Greyhound Stadium on the sunny evening of 25th June 2015, raised over £12,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, now in its 19th year was very well supported, with 36 teams taking part and many local businesses offering their services and sponsorship in support of the event. Over 1,000 spectators attended and enjoyed a night out cheering on the frogs.

Princebuild Limited, the principal organiser of the event worked with a number of local companies to help put on a great night of Frog Racing entertainment. The winners of this years’ main event were ‘The Stand Ins’ with last years’ winners ‘ABC Stainless’ in runner up spot. The Fitness Factory Gym were the victors in The Michael Scotney Memorial Race and in the Eileen Walters Memorial race Beecal Electrical reigned supreme.

The evening also included children’s entertainment in the form of face painting and a bouncy castle, which added to the family atmosphere, while the betting which is taken on each of the 13 races helped to raise further funds and excitement from the crowd. In addition a raffle was held with some fabulous top prizes and a magnum of champagne was on offer for the lucky programme draw.

Dale Asplin, Director of Princebuild and Chairman of the Frog Racing Committee commented: “I have been involved with the Frog Race for several years now and the event just seems to get better and better. The lovely summer evening certainly made it for the event this year, it was an ideal evening for the spectators to enjoy the racing.

“We would like to thank all the local businesses that get involved with the event, whether for entering a team into the races, donating raffle prizes, sponsoring races or providing practical help on the night, it has all helped us to raise a fantastic amount of money for a really worthy cause.”

Macmillan Cancer Support work to help cancer sufferers, carers and their families. The charity, which offers more than healthcare, also funds nurses and specialist health workers and builds medical centres as well as funding home improvements.
