The annual World Frog Racing Championship, which took place at Peterborough Greyhound Stadium on Thursday 3rd July, again exceeded all expectations and raised over £9,000.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Princebuild Limited, the championship’s principal organiser worked with a number of local companies to help put on a great night of Frog Racing entertainment. Around 1,200 spectators came along on the evening to cheer on the teams and enjoy the great family atmosphere. ABC Stainless of Peterborough were named as this year’s champions and their second team also took home the Eileen Walters Memorial Trophy awarded for winning the main runners up event.

“The annual frog race has become a firm favourite in Peterborough’s social calendar. It’s hilarious to take part in and is also a great spectator sport,” comments Dale Asplin of Princebuild. “With the fine weather, the atmosphere was fantastic and the crowd really got behind the competitors. We are delighted with the amount raised and I would like to thank all those who contributed and took part.”

Businesses throughout the Peterborough area and beyond enter teams and sponsor races, which alongside the sale of programmes and raffle tickets on the night all goes to the very worthy Macmillan cause. Additional funds are also raised on the evening by allowing spectators to place bets on each heat, which not only adds to the charity pot but also adds to the cheering and support from the crowd! Dale adds “Macmillan is a really worthwhile charity, and whilst the event was a great night out, it also raised a phenomenal amount of money for a fantastic cause.”

Macmillan Cancer Support work to help cancer sufferers, carers and their families. The charity, which offers more than healthcare also funds nurses and specialist health workers and builds medical centres as well as funding home improvements. In addition they offer important emotional support and advice on the financial help available to those affected by cancer.
