Princebuild step in to help rebuild historic signal box

The Deeping St James signal box was demolished by Network Rail in 2014. A local campaign to raise funds to buy the plot of land and the pledge of assistance from skilled volunteers, will see it re-built and opened as a heritage centre.

The signal box was originally built in 1876 but was taken down to make way for new electric crossing gates. It has since been in storage while the local community have rallied to raise funds and secure support for the rebuild project.

Princebuild will be project managing the re-build, working alongside New College Stamford whose construction students will be taking on much of the work, with help from other volunteers and Manor Roofing who have offered to re-slate the roof.

Not only will the project see the reinstatement of this historic building, it will also provide valuable learning opportunities for the college students and be a project the whole community can feel part of and be proud of.

Work is due to start on the project in mid-September.
