As part of our ongoing campaign to promote careers in construction Princebuild recently assisted with the delivery of a Construction ‘have a go’ event alongside the SLGTA (South Lincolnshire Group Training Association).

The event was held over two days, with New College Stamford kindly providing the space and facilities to hold the event and providing several of their own construction students and staff to assist with the activities.

Over 500 school children attended over the two days taking part in activities ranging from plumbing, to building a suspension bridge. There were also opportunities to try out the Go Construct Plant Simulator and to operate a real life mini digger.

Princebuild provided several of their own apprentices who acted as mentors to the groups of learners as well as running a renewable energy activity for the school pupils.

Barbara Mehew, Company HR Manager for Princebuild and Chairman for the SLGTA also arranged awards and medals sponsored by Princebuild for pupils who showed great enthusiasm and potential across the two days.

Matthew Pudney, Director of Princebuild also attended the event and commented “The construction industry is currently facing a significant skills shortage, so it’s really important to engage with these young people and get them excited and interested in the opportunities that are available to them within our industry.

“Coming to these events and seeing all of the hard work that is put in not just by us, but other companies and organisations to reach out to these young people really gives me confidence for the future of our industry.”
