Princebuild have begun work on site to extend and improve the dedicated cancer unit at Bedford Hospital.

The unit, which opened in 2003, provides a full complement of high quality, clinical and support services. The demand for these services has increased by 85% over the last five years, stretching its capacity to the limit.

The 17 week project will see the unit extended, creating four additional chemotherapy treatment stations as well as creating extra capacity through internal alterations. The work will also link the Primrose unit to the chemotherapy preparation area of the pharmacy department saving time for patients attending appointments.

The project is being funded by the Bedford Hospital charity committee who have raised a  staggering £750,000 to make this project possible and to improve services for cancer patients in and around Bedford.

The works will take place over the summer and be completed in September 2016. In the meantime patients have been relocated to a temporary building which Princebuild have re-decorated and fitted out to meet the specific needs of the patients.
