Reinstatement of domestic dwelling after fire damage

Project: Reinstatement of domestic dwelling after fire damage
Value: £65,000
Duration: 20 weeks
Client: Quantum Survey Management
Completed: July 2016
When the dishwasher caused a fire in their family home in November 2015, the Croxall family, turned to their insurance company and Harris Balcombe loss assessors for help. The reinstatement works were put out to tender by their insurance company and Princebuild were chosen to carry out the work.

The fire, which was caused by the dishwasher, destroyed the kitchen, went through the ceiling and into the bedroom above causing significant damage throughout the property. Smoke and water damage also affected almost the entire property, leaving it damp and thick in soot and debris.

Work began on the property in February 2016 and it was important that the work was completed in a timely manner due to the family having to live in temporary accommodation.

To reinstate the property back to its original condition, water and smoke damaged plaster work and ceilings had to be removed throughout, along with all interior fixtures and fittings such as the destroyed kitchen, bathroom and interior doors.

"We had the worst nightmare of our lives coming home to find we had lost everything to a dishwasher fire. Thanks to Princebuild our home has been completely restored.

“Andy McDaid the Project Manager and his superb professional team of contractors worked supportively and professionally with our loss assessor Harris Balcombe and restored our home to a very high standard. We cannot thank Andy and his team enough, especially Alan the joiner. Highly recommend this professional company thank you."

Once stripped back the property needed professionally drying with industrial dehumidifiers to remove all traces of damp, as well as deep cleaning to remove soot and smoke odour. Much of the work preparation work was completed by one of our group companies, Princeclean Limited.

Electrical and plumbing first fixes were then installed followed by new ceilings and plaster work.New kitchen and bathrooms were designed and installed and the property was decorated throughout in the family’s choice of colours.

Once complete the fresh looking property was handed back to the Croxall family and they could finally settle back into their home.

Throughout the project the team worked closely with the family, keeping them up to date on the progress of the work and offering advice to help them make decisions on the new kitchen, bathrooms and other aspects of their repaired home.
