As part of a week which celebrates the diversity and value that apprenticeships generate, Princebuild are delighted to have recruited six new apprentices, as well as having a further eight trade based apprenticeship vacancies currently open.
This will bring the total number of apprentices working within the business to 29 and it is hoped that they will follow in the footsteps of other previous apprentices and become valued long serving members of the team.
Princebuild are proud to have been supporting apprentices within the business for over 20 years both by providing apprenticeship placements and also by providing work trials to enable vital on the job experience to be gained.
Over the years the company has worked in partnership with many colleges, universities and training providers to influence and inspire entrants into the industry. We have worked in partnership with New College Stamford for almost a decade to ensure that our Electrical apprentices achieve NVQ3, AM2 and 18th Edition qualifications and our Mechanical apprentices achieve NVQ3 plus CCN1 and appliances as part of their domestic gas training.
In addition to the trade based roles we also provide opportunities for technical and professional apprentices working towards their higher level apprenticeships.
In partnership with the South Lincolnshire Group Training Association (SLGTA) and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Princebuild support the delivery of educational construction events on an annual basis to give local primary and secondary schools the opportunity to “have a go” at a variety of traditional, technical and professional trades. The event is hosted by New College Stamford and is run to encourage new entrants into the construction industry. Over six hundred young people attend the event each year and all go home with an insight into the diverse roles available in the construction industry.
Princebuild also has 16 fully qualified CITB Construction Ambassadors designated to inspire new entrants into the industry, whether that’s by leading site visits, attending careers fairs or by mentoring somebody considering a career in construction.
Jamie Holmes, a newly qualified plumbing and heating engineer has just completed his NVQ Level 3 with support from Princebuild. Jamie commented “My trade is plumbing and heating, predominantly on industrial and commercial applications, my day to day work can be anything from planned preventative and reactive maintenance to fault finding and new installations.
“I have been in the trade since November 2014 and have completed both level 2 and level 3 NVQ.
“I’m grateful for the engineers who have taken their time to help me get to this point, something you wouldn’t necessarily receive in a smaller company.”
Jamie became aware of Princebuild after taking part in a plumbing competition at Boston College, he then took up an offer from Company HR Manager Barbara Mehew to have some assistance with his CV. Following this he successfully applied for an apprenticeship position within the company. He has been recognised for his hard work and dedication being named CIPHE student of the year in 2015 and also being highly commended in the FMB Master Builders awards in 2017.
Princebuild will be continuing to work with the CITB, the SLGTA, New College Stamford and Cambridge Regional College to help raise awareness throughout National Apprenticeship week and beyond.
