Overview
Princebuild is proud to have played a key role in the transformation of East Community Centre in Peterborough, a vital hub for local residents. Thanks to a generous capital grant of £108,675 from Groundwork UK, funded by the UK Government and supported by East Ward Councillors, the centre has undergone significant energy efficiency improvements. The project, initiated by Light House Community Group CIO, focuses on reducing energy consumption, lowering operational costs, and enhancing the comfort of the facility for its users.
Scope of Works
The comprehensive upgrade works undertaken at East Community Centre include:
- Installation of new suspended ceilings with 150 mm insulation to improve thermal efficiency.
- Replacement of existing lighting with energy-efficient LED fittings, including external lighting enhancements.
- Upgrading the heating system with an Ideal Evo Max 2 boiler, a new heating pump, and full BMS (Building Management System) controls.
- Installation of additional ceiling insulation to enhance heat retention and reduce energy costs.
- Replacement of outdated heating infrastructure to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Installation of new plant room doors.
- Final commissioning from our mechanical team.
One of the key challenges was working within a live environment, ensuring minimal disruption to the daily operations of the nursery during the day while making the centre fully functional for evening community groups and events.
Summary
This project represents a significant step forward in improving the sustainability and functionality of East Community Centre. By implementing these energy-saving measures, the centre will benefit from reduced utility costs, allowing funds to be redirected towards other valuable community initiatives.
Cllr Patrick Kadewere, Chairman of Light House Community Group CIO, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “These improvements are part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our community’s environmental footprint and promote sustainability. We are incredibly grateful to Groundwork UK, the UK Government, and the East Ward Councillors for their support, and we look forward to the positive impact these changes will have on our community.”
