New store, Southend-on-Sea

Value:

£900,000

Duration:

13 weeks

Client:

Lidl UK

Completed:

August 2020

The creation of the new Southend-on-Sea store for Lidl GB was the third project to be completed by Princebuild for the discount supermarket chain.

The new store is part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans and added to their 800 plus stores which employ over 25,000 people nationwide.

The site formerly housed DIY chain Homebase and following their closure was partitioned to create two smaller buildings.

The design and build project required additional health and safety measures in place due to Covid-19 and these factors had to be absorbed into the 13 week timeline.

A full internal fit out was undertaken including mechanical and electrical installations, all to Lidl’s corporate specification.

The new store has a 1,300 square-metre sales area and features facilities such as an in-store bakery, longer-style tills, customer toilets, baby changing and parking for both cars and bicycles.

The empty shell was taken to a fully operational store on schedule and to an excellent standard which the Lidl team were very happy with.
