The London Designer Outlet is situated at the heart of Wembley Park and is part of a vibrant and iconic community.
Following on from previous successfully delivered projects at the semi outdoor shopping centre, Princebuild were pleased to take on the Design and Build project to provide a two storey retail space for Nike.
The project commenced with the full strip out of the existing units including a mechanical and electrical strip out. The floor screed was broken out and replaced with new and the existing shop front were removed and new fronts fitted.
To open up the store to the two floors the structural concrete slab had to be cut through to make way for a new lift shaft and stairs. This needed to be exactly correct for the positioning of the lift shaft.
A new service corridor was constructed which included the fit out of services and an incoming power upgrade. This required time consuming liaison with the power company to implement.
Due to the timing of the project there were some obstacles to overcome with procurement, particularly of the glass and aluminium for the shop fronts.
This required orders to be placed months earlier than normal to avoid delays to the project.
Re configuring and integrating two floors in a live shopping centre requires very careful planning, however due to the location of the centre this was even more of a challenge.
The access route via Wembley Boulevard is a pedestrian area and getting materials such as the shop fronts and trucks delivering concrete to site required careful liaison with Wembley Park. All
deliveries required banksmen to walk delivery vehicles to the area of works.
Despite the challenges the project was handed over on time, ready for Nike to complete their fit out.
