Overview

Waitrose undertook a comprehensive renovation project aimed at enhancing store functionality, aesthetics, and energy efficiency. The project involved the like-for-like (L4L) replacement of refrigeration units, extensive ceiling and lighting replacements, installation of Direct Air Conditioning (DAC) units, remodelling of meat and fish counters, construction of a new sushi counter, creation of an ECOMM room, and various infrastructural upgrades. The focus was on integrating modern technology, implementing sustainability initiatives, and improving the overall customer experience, all while adhering to strict health and safety standards.

Scope of Work

The project integrated advanced technology, sustainability, customer-focused design, and complex logistics while adhering to strict health and safety standards. The installation of advanced refrigeration systems and smart lighting with features like automated dimming, enhanced energy efficiency, and reduced environmental impact significantly improved store operations. Sustainability was prioritised through the selection of energy-efficient refrigeration, DAC systems, and lighting, as well as a comprehensive waste management plan to minimise the store’s carbon footprint. Customer-centric improvements included the addition of a sushi counter and the remodelling of meat and fish counters, all executed with minimal disruption by conducting work during off-peak hours. The resurfacing of car parks and replacement of the store’s generator were meticulously planned to ensure continuous access and safety. Throughout the renovation, strict health and safety protocols were followed, using specialised equipment for the safe removal and installation of large systems.
