Overview
Princebuild was appointed by Workman LLP to undertake the refurbishment of the roof at The Glades. This 12-week project focused on improving the building’s efficiency, resolving water ingress issues and future-proofing the roof area while maintaining operations for several trading retailers below.
Scope of Work
- Developed a detailed logistics plan to safely transfer new tapered insulation and felt from ground to roof level.
- Validated existing plant equipment serving multiple retailers and managed both permanent and temporary relocations to accommodate the new roof build-up.
- Carried out alterations to existing ductwork and containment runs, including removal of old lagging and installation of new VentureClad to enhance aesthetics and waterproofing.
- Installed new Bauder tapered roof insulation and felt to address water ingress and improve efficiency.
- Undertook general brickwork repairs and repointing to the central atrium.
- Applied waterproof sealant to the central atrium capping detail.
- Installed new self-weighted handrails to provide suitable edge protection after the roof level was raised.
Summary
This project delivered a high-quality roof refurbishment that improved energy performance, mitigated water ingress, and provided enhanced safety for maintenance teams. Through careful planning and coordination, the works were completed while minimising disruption to retailers and ensuring the long-term resilience of the building.
